The US Embassy in New Delhi shared posts highlighting President Trump and VP Vance’s appreciation of India.
Washington: In yet another friendly gesture, the US Embassy in India shared President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance's praise for India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reinforcing the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The statements, posted this week, come amid a renewed diplomatic push between the two nations to rebuild relations, and even as negotiators from the US and India work to resolve differences over an elusive trade agreement.
Trump praised India as one of the world’s oldest civilizations, calling it an “amazing country” and a key strategic partner for the United States in the Indo-Pacific region. He also called PM Modi a “great friend”.
The post, which was shared along with a picture of Trump and Modi shaking hands, said, “India is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It is an amazing country and an important strategic partner for America in the Indo-Pacific region. We have a great friend in PM Modi.”
Two days after Trump’s praise for India, the US Embassy on Thursday reshared a statement by Vance during his visit to India in April 2025. "In India, America has a friend, and we seek to strengthen the warm bonds our great nations already share."
PM Modi on December 11 held a phone call with Trump to review India-US ties, vowing to continue cooperation for global peace, stability, and prosperity. Reviewing the progress made in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, Modi and Trump also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, critical technologies, energy, defense, and security.
Modi, taking to X after his phone call with Trump, said, “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments.”
"India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability, and prosperity,” the prime minister added. They also agreed to work closely to address shared challenges and advance common interests.
Both PM Modi and Trump expressed satisfaction at the steady strengthening of ties between the two countries. They underlined the need to sustain momentum in efforts to enhance bilateral trade, especially as India and the US continue ongoing trade negotiations.
Earlier in November, Donald Trump had praised the Indian PM, calling him “a great man” and “a friend”. He had also hinted that he may visit India next year as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen trade relations between the two nations after his administration imposed 50 per cent tariffs on New Delhi imports.
Speaking to reporters at the White House after announcing a new deal to lower the prices of weight loss drugs, Trump said his talks with PM Modi were “going great". When asked if he planned to travel to India next year, Trump replied, “It could be, yes.”
India 'very close' to sealing trade deal with USNew Delhi: Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said this week that India is "very close" to concluding an interim trade deal with the US to bring down tariffs, but stopped short of fixing any timeline on the issue. "We are very close to closing the initial framework deal, but I don't want to put a timeline to it," the Commerce Secretary told the media here. "We have done six rounds of talks with the US, where we have discussed both the BTA (bilateral trade agreement) as well as an interim deal to lower reciprocal tariffs. There's a fair expectation that both countries will be able to agree to a deal to lower reciprocal tariffs," he said. |
