Washington: US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said this week that they had agreed on a plan to end the war in Gaza — though it remains uncertain whether Hamas will sign on.

Trump outlined a 20-point proposal that not only calls for an immediate halt to the fighting but also lays out a framework for Gaza’s postwar governance. The White House described the plan as a roadmap for both ending the conflict and shaping the territory’s future administration.

According to the plan, a temporary governing board would be established, chaired by Trump and comprising figures such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The framework makes clear that no one in Gaza would be forced to leave, and stipulates that the fighting would cease immediately if both Israel and Hamas accept the terms. Here are the key highlights:

• Gaza will be a deradicalized, terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbors.

• Gaza will be redeveloped for the benefit of its people.

• If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end.

• Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting the agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned. Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life-sentence prisoners plus 1700 Gazans.

• Once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty.

• Upon acceptance of the agreement, full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip.

• Gaza will be governed under the temporary transitional governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee.

• A Trump economic development plan to rebuild and energise Gaza will be created. A special economic zone will also be established

• Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza. The US will work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to immediately deploy in Gaza.

"If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr President (Trump), or if they supposedly accept it and then basically do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself. This can be done the easy way or it can be done the hard way, but it will be done."

Hamas given '3 or 4 days' to accept plan

US President Donald Trump warned Hamas that it has only a few days to decide on his proposed Gaza peace plan, warning of severe consequences if the group refuses. Trump made it clear that the group had only "three or four days" to respond.

"Hamas is either going to be doing it or not, and if it's not, it's going to be a very sad end," he said. When asked whether there was room for bargaining over the plan, Trump replied, "Not much." Trump said Israel would have Washington’s "full backing" if Hamas refused to cooperate.
