The US President's remarks come as an Israeli strike on a hospital in Gaza killed at least 20 people, including five journalists, this week.
Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing war in Gaza would reach a “conclusive ending” in the coming two to three weeks. “I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have pretty good, conclusive — a conclusive ending,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“Right now, they’re talking about Gaza City. They’re always talking about something,” he said. “At some point, it’s going to get settled… You better get it settled soon.”
Acknowledging the urgency to end the war, the US president underlined that the people will not be able to forget Oct 7, the date when Hamas launched its military offensive against Israel in 2023. “It does have to end,” the US president said, “but people can’t forget October 7.”
He claimed that a serious “diplomatic push” was underway to end the conflict, which has been going on for nearly two years now. “There has been… a very serious diplomatic push,” Trump responded when asked if the United States was engaging in diplomacy to end the war.
He added that he has been in contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing his close relationship with him. “I deal with Bibi Netanyahu quite a bit, and we’ve had great success, obviously, in Iran. We knocked out their nuclear threat,” he said.
When asked about the ongoing famine in Gaza, Trump responded, “We’re sending a lot of food to Gaza, feeding a lot of people. But with that said, it’s a massive number of people to support.”
Israel may pull back from Lebanon if Hezbollah disarms: NetanyahuIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he welcomed Lebanon’s recent cabinet decision to pursue the disarmament of Hezbollah by the end of 2025, calling it a “momentous decision” that could pave the way for an Israeli troop withdrawal. He said if Lebanon takes the necessary steps to disarm Hezbollah, then Israel will respond with reciprocal measures, according to the Associated Press. He added that these could include a phased reduction of Israel’s military presence in southern Lebanon. |
