Los Angeles: Indian American Aarti Kaushal is running for the South Orange Community College District Board of Trustees – Area 1 (Irvine) seat in California.
A British-born, first-generation immigrant, Aarti has been a teacher, educator, student life coach, and grassroots activist/organizer for students, youth and women in Irvine/Orange County for 26 years and a resident of Irvine for 34+ years. She says she is running to ensure the voices of students, teachers, and the community are heard; “because together we can create an exceptional higher education experience.”
Aarti says her leadership will focus on overseeing safe reopening of Irvine Valley College, Saddleback College, and ATEP (Advanced Technology & Education Park). She adds, “We need to work with health experts and rely on science to safely reopen our campuses for the overall wellbeing of every student, faculty, and employee,” she says about reopening.”
As her election comes up on November 3 and vote-by-mail ballots start going out to every registered voter from October 5, Aarti shared her platform with The South Asian Times, which includes:
- Collaborating and balancing fiscal accountability and sustainability for essential services
- Fair, equitable access for educational and/or employment opportunities for students, faculty, and employees
- Providing overall curriculum and training that is affordable, socially and economically relevant, while retaining world-class higher education experiences.
Aarti says proudly, “I’m the most outstanding candidate running in the largest local/down ballot election & the 2nd largest education election in all of Orange County (after the OC Board of Education)!”
She has received many endorsements including from Orange County Young Democrats. Harry Sidhu, Mayor of Anaheim, CA, has said in support: “Aarti’s experience and track record proves she has across the aisle, widespread appeal to bring about real education reform. I know what it takes to lead especially in difficult times; I’m confident her solid commitment to all stakeholders makes her the most outstanding candidate for community college trustee.”
Having to reach 600,000 voters, Aarti is looking forward to support from the Indian community. Prominent community leaders like Dr Raj Bhayani of New York area have already come forward to help her campaign.
