Actors Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra have praised singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh for bagging an International Emmy nomination for his film 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. The Netflix film has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor and Best TV Movie categories at the International Emmy Awards 2025.
Taking to her official Instagram handle, Priyanka Chopra shared the Amar Singh Chamkila film poster, featuring Diljit Dosanjh, as she extended her congratulations on the big news. The actress wrote, "Congratulations @diljitdosanjh! Punjabi Emmy's te aagaye oye," while also tagging the entire cast and crew of the film. The film also stars Priyanka’s sister Parineeti Chopra in a key role.
Calling the film 'a gem', Alia Bhatt wrote: "Congrats @diljitdosanjh and the team behind this gem! Shining bright indeed!"
Diljit will compete against David Mitchell for 'Ludwig', Oriol Pla for 'Yo, Adicto', and Diego Vasquez for 'One Hundred Years of Solitude'.
'Amar Singh Chamkila' tells the story of Punjab's iconic folk singer, Amar Singh Chamkila (played by Diljit), often called the Elvis of Punjab. He rose to fame in the 1980s for his bold songs and energetic performances, but his life was tragically cut short in 1988 when he and Amarjot were killed at the age of 27. Written by Imtiaz Ali, the film was released on Netflix in April 2024.
