'Haq' is inspired by Shah Bano's fight for justice in the 1985 landmark case, which led the Supreme Court to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance. The film centres on the battle for dignity fought by the protagonist, Shazia (Yami). Shazia, a homemaker without any educational qualifications, gets married to an advocate named Abbas Khan (Emraan). Her life turns upside down when, one day, Abbas marries a second wife and ends their marriage through triple talaq. The rest of the film follows her legal fight for the rights of her children and her financial sovereignty.
