Nitesh Tiwari’s big-budget mythological film ‘Ramayana’ is one of the most highly anticipated projects of the year. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Faisal Malik has been roped in as Kumbhakarna in the film. Earlier, Bobby Deol’s name had emerged for the role.
Malik is popularly known for playing the role of Prahladcha (or chacha) ‘Prahlad’ Pandey in Amazon Prime Video series 'Panchayat', and was recently seen in Anil Kapoor starrer 'Subedaar'. Now, he has joined the cast of 'Ramayana' as Kumbhakarna, and has already completed the first schedule of the film.
A source told Hindustan Times, “he joined for the introductory Kumbhakaran scene at Prime Focus studio in Mumbai, shot with an international action crew. The sequences are heavy on graphics — similar to 'Avatar'."
The source also shared that the major battle sequences, which are part of the film’s second instalment, are yet to be shot. They also mentioned that Faisal Malik’s height and well-built frame makes him a good fit for the role. So far, there has been no official confirmation of Faisal Malik’s casting from the makers or the actor.
Last month, Variety India reported that Raghav Juyal has been brought on board to play the role of Meghanad, the eldest son of Ravana and the crown prince of Lanka, in 'Ramayana'.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. 'Ramayana Part I' is slated for a theatrical release this Diwali, while the second chapter will release on Diwali 2027.
