Kathmandu: Former Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has accused the caretaker government of attempting to arrest him "without sufficient grounds," alleging that the current administration lacks seriousness about conducting the next general elections, scheduled for March 5, 2026.

According to news agency PTI, Oli made the remarks during his first formal interaction with editors and senior journalists in Kathmandu, more than a month after being ousted from office amid youth-led demonstrations that forced his resignation in early September.

The CPN-UML chairperson said that the government was trying to arrest him by hook or crook, despite no legal basis. He accused the administration of misusing power to target political opponents instead of focusing on restoring democratic order.

Oli resigned following violent Gen Z-led protests that erupted in Nepal, driven by public anger over corruption and a controversial ban on social media platforms.
He has accused the caretaker government of being unconstitutional, saying it was formed "in clear violation of democratic principles".

Nepal's Prime Minister Sushila Karki said this week that her interim government is committed to holding the March 5 general election in a free and fair manner. "We are responsible for addressing the legitimate voices of Gen Z in line with the Constitution. The government will create an environment where Nepalis can vote without fear, strengthening democracy, advancing prosperity, and safeguarding citizens' rights," she said while speaking at an event in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur.
