Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), the party of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to boycott the upcoming by-elections for the national and provincial assemblies. The decision was taken by the party’s political committee, which met to consider Khan’s input following a meeting with his legal team at Adiala Jail, The Dawn newspaper reported.

Khan’s message was relayed to the media by his sister, Aleema Khan, who also met him in prison. She said her brother had asked the party’s political committee to hold another meeting on the by-election issue based on his instructions.

This comes after several national and provincial assembly seats became vacant last month following the conviction of PTI leaders for their involvement in the May 9, 2023, riots.

Asim Munir destroying Pakistan: Imran Khan

Aleema Khan delivered a series of sharp messages on his behalf after meeting him in Adiala Jail, CNN-News18 reported, adding that she conveyed her brother’s defiance and his scathing criticism of the country’s powerful figures and institutions.

According to Aleema, Imran Khan drew a direct and stinging parallel between former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the country’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. In his message, Khan claimed, “The way Mohsin Naqvi destroyed Pakistan cricket, Asim Munir is destroying Pakistan."

Furthermore, Aleema revealed her brother’s deep concern over the state of the country’s governance. “There is no rule of law in Pakistan," she quoted him as saying, adding that “all institutions are compromised, including the media."
