New Delhi: Weeks after Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi wrapped up a successful five-day visit to India, the Taliban regime's Industry and Commerce Minister, Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, landed in New Delhi on November 19 for a five-day trip.
Azizi's visit comes at a time when Afghanistan is actively looking for alternative trade routes following the shutdown of major crossings with Pakistan, which costs Kabul millions every month.
"A warm welcome to Afghan Industry and Commerce Minister, Alhaj Nooruddin Azizi, on his official visit to India. Advancing bilateral trade and investment ties is the key focus of the visit," New Delhi's foreign office spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.
Azizi's trip to India coincides with broader bilateral efforts by both countries to deepen their economic relationship. During Muttaqi's October visit, India and Afghanistan agreed to set up a bilateral trade committee to explore investment opportunities in minerals, energy, and infrastructure.
For his part, Azizi is expected to meet with senior Indian officials, participate in trade-focused discussions, and attend the India International Trade Fair (IITF), according to a report by news agency ANI.
