Islamabad: Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, has said that despite being held in prolonged solitary confinement, her brother remains “strong and will not break.”
Speaking to CNN-News18, Aleema questioned why Imran Khan continues to remain behind bars, arguing that the objective of keeping him imprisoned has already been achieved through controversial constitutional changes.
“When you have already achieved your objectives by keeping Imran Khan in prison and through the 26th and 27th amendments, then the question arise, why is Imran Khan still in prison today?” she said.
Aleema alleged that the amendments were passed through manipulated votes by a small group of lawmakers and claimed the judiciary had been deliberately weakened to ensure her brother’s continued incarceration.
Imran Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023, months after his government was removed in April 2022. Multiple cases were filed against him following his ouster. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, alleged that Khan has been kept in solitary confinement for over three months and denied access to legal counsel.
