Islamabad: Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, met the former prime minister at Adiala Jail in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi this week and confirmed that Khan was “completely fit and well."

The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, came after the Supreme Court of Pakistan granted Safdar full access to Khan on its directives. Safdar has been appointed by the top court as amicus curiae, or “friend of the court," to examine Khan’s living conditions in jail.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Safdar said the PTI chief appeared healthy and that he had a detailed discussion with him. “It is not appropriate to say anything further until the report is filed in the Supreme Court," he added.

Khan, 73, has been in custody since 5 August 2023, after his conviction in a corruption case. This was the first visit by anyone since December 2, when Khan’s sister Uzma met him for 20 minutes and reported that he was in good health. The authorities had stopped meetings between Khan and his family and lawyers, citing alleged political misuse of such meetings.
