Xavier University celebrates Class of 2026: Inspiring a new generation of global healthcare leaders

Oranjestad, Aruba: Xavier University proudly celebrated the Class of 2026 during its annual Commencement Ceremony, honoring graduates of the Xavier University School of Medicine and School of Nursing.

Held in the elegant Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Resort Aruba on May 15, the ceremony brought together faculty, distinguished guests, proud families, and friends from around the world to recognize not only academic achievement but also the determination, resilience, and compassion that carried these graduates to this remarkable moment.

As they step forward into the global healthcare community, the graduates of Xavier University carry with them the knowledge, purpose, and commitment to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and inspire hope in communities around the world.

This year’s ceremony marked not only a significant milestone for the medical and nursing graduates but also reflected the resilience, unity, and spirit that define the Xavier University community. To ensure family and friends around the world could take part in the celebration, the event was professionally live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

The ceremony opened with the national anthems of the United States, Canada, and Aruba, reflecting Xavier University’s international spirit and the diverse backgrounds represented among its graduating students. The event brought together leaders in medicine, nursing, public health, and education to recognize the perseverance, academic achievement, and dedication of the graduating class.

Dr Arun Dubey, Chief Academic Officer of Xavier University, served as Master of Ceremonies and welcomed attendees to the occasion. “Today, we come together to celebrate more than academic success,” said Dr Dubey. “We honor dedication to healing, service, and compassion. Our graduates have completed rigorous coursework, demanding clinical training, and faced significant challenges with resilience and determination.”

Chairman of the Board Edwin Casey delivered remarks encouraging graduates to lead with humility, service, and a commitment to lifelong learning as they enter the healthcare profession.

The congratulatory address was delivered by Dr Melvin G Wyatt-Ras, Aruba’s Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Management. Wyatt-Ras inspired graduates with a passionate and heartfelt call to action, reminding them that the future of global healthcare now rests in their hands.

Addressing the growing worldwide need for compassionate and skilled medical professionals, she encouraged the Class of 2026 to lead with courage, pursue excellence without limits, and remain grounded in integrity and service. Her remarks challenged graduates to become not only healthcare providers but innovators, advocates, and leaders capable of transforming lives and strengthening communities around the world.

Academic honors were presented to outstanding graduates, including Medical School Salutatorian Dr Gabriella David, Nursing Valedictorian Vanya Tromp, and Medical School Valedictorian Dr Muskan Dubey. Each reflected on the challenges of their academic journey and emphasized the importance of compassion, perseverance, and gratitude.

Chancellor Dr J G Bhat addressed graduates on the future of medicine, highlighting the growing importance of personalized healthcare, scientific research, and intellectual curiosity in modern medical practice.

President Ravi Bhooplapur congratulated the graduates and reminded them that while medicine continues to advance through science, research, and technology, the true heart of healthcare will always be compassion and human connection.

In an emotional message to the Class of 2026, he encouraged graduates to lead with empathy, serve with humility, and never lose sight of the people behind every diagnosis and every patient interaction. “Healing will always begin with the human touch,” Bhooplapur said. “Be the doctor who listens. Be the nurse who advocates.”

His remarks served as a powerful reminder that the greatest healthcare professionals are not only defined by their knowledge and skill, but by their ability to comfort, inspire hope, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The university also recognized Dr Kevin Pawlak with the Award of Excellence in Leadership and Service for his outstanding dedication to students and academic excellence.

During the ceremony, nursing graduates participated in the Florence Nightingale Pledge led by Dean Bonnie McGowan, while medical graduates recited the Hippocratic Oath under the guidance of Dr Ahmad Abazid, reaffirming their commitment to ethical and compassionate patient care.

President Bhooplapur formally conferred the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees and Doctor of Medicine degrees upon the Class of 2026, marking the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.

The ceremony concluded with a celebratory recessional as graduates officially joined Xavier University’s growing international network of healthcare professionals dedicated to serving communities around the world.
