New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was set to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from April 11-12, just days after a temporary halt in hostilities in West Asia. His visit is expected to “review close cooperation and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership” and to discuss energy security and regional developments.
The visit is also expected to provide a strategic assessment of the evolving security situation and an effort to reiterate India’s energy and geopolitical interests in the region.
“During the visit, EAM will meet the leadership of the UAE to review close cooperation and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement.
Jaishankar’s visit to the UAE is expected to lead to taking stock of the situation for the Emiratis, as well as to gain a sense of the longevity of the ceasefire and negotiations towards a lasting peace settlement.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also headed to Qatar on an official visit between April 9 and 10.
Meanwhile, Global oil prices have fallen since the announcement of the ceasefire to below $100 a barrel.
