In this northeastern state, 722 candidates are vying for 126 Assembly seats, with the main contest framed as CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s governance record versus the Congress campaign led by Gaurav Gogoi.

Elections progressed smoothly in the southern Kerala state, with voter turnout hitting 63 per cent till 3 pm. Kerala’s 2.71 crore voters are choosing among 883 candidates across 140 constituencies. While the race involves multiple parties, it primarily pits the ruling Left Democratic Front, led by CM Pinarayi Vijayan, against the opposition United Democratic Front.

Voter turnout in the Puducherry Assembly elections crossed the 72 per cent mark by 3 pm on April 9, officials said. In this union territory, roughly 9.5 lakh voters will decide the outcome for 294 candidates across 30 seats. The NDA alliance seeks to retain power, while the INDIA bloc is mounting a strong challenge. Early trends suggest lively voter turnout across all regions.
