Melbourne: In a significant development, India, Australia and Canada have launched the Australia–Canada–India Technology and Innovation Partnership, or ACITI. The trilateral framework covers artificial intelligence, green energy technologies, critical minerals, and resilient supply chains.

ACITI is a trilateral technology and innovation partnership among India, Australia and Canada. The framework was first announced after a meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg on November 22, 2025.

The partnership covers critical and emerging technologies, clean energy, and secure sourcing of critical minerals. It also seeks cooperation in industrial projects linked to technology development and supply-chain resilience.

Artificial intelligence is one of the core areas under ACITI. Green energy technologies form another major component of the partnership. Critical minerals are included for secure and diversified supply chains. The framework also covers net-zero emissions-related cooperation.

Canada has strengths in AI research and clean technology. India has scale and digital infrastructure. Australia has a resource base and commercialization capacity. ACITI is designed to combine these strengths for technology development and supply-chain security. The partnership also covers resilient and sustainable technological ecosystems.

Critical minerals are raw materials used in batteries, electronics, renewable energy systems, and defense technologies.

India and Australia also finalized administrative arrangements under their 2015 Nuclear Cooperation Agreement on 9 July 2026. The arrangement allows Australia to begin long-term uranium exports to India for peaceful energy use. Canada has also pursued diversified international partnerships in 2026 amid trade disputes and supply-chain disruptions involving the United States.
