Washington, DC: Indian American Harmeet Dhillon, was confirmed by the US Senate on Apr.3 to head the powerful Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.
A former California Republican Party leader, Dhillon was confirmed by the Senate by 52-45 votes to be an assistant attorney general of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.
Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski was the sole GOP member to vote against her.
Dhillon will oversee criminal and civil work ranging from hate crime prosecutions and voting rights litigation, to investigating law enforcement agencies for engaging in patterns of discrimination.
