US Surgeon General spreads awareness about mental health during India visit

Dr Vivek Murthy, US Surgeon General along with spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar addressed a gathering at the Art of Living International Center in Bengaluru as they collectively addressed burning questions about how mental health ails many across the globe and what measures can be taken to tackle it.  The address coincided with World Mental Health Day, as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shed light on how meditation offers a holistic solution to mental health issues plaguing people worldwide.   

The event ran for over an hour and was attended by over 10,000 people, with visitors from over 90 countries marking their presence. The gathering was webcast to over 140 countries.  

Before attending Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's seminar, Dr Murthy met Aamir Khan and his daughter Ira Khan and spoke to them about mental well-being and the role individuals can play in fostering a healthy environment, where not only physical but mental health is given importance. 

He also interacted with students at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and The American School of Bombay and discussed their issues related to mental health. Dr Murthy also organized a meet and greet with the students of IIT Bombay, which was moderated by Ira Khan, where she also opened up about her mental health battles and the journey to overcoming them.
