New York: The Rotary Club of Hicksville South (RCHS) successfully carried out its annual winter charity initiative—its signature Blanket Giveaway Project—providing warmth and comfort to those most vulnerable during New York’s severe winter cold. Hundreds of high‑quality new blankets were distributed through several community organizations serving seniors, veterans, homeless individuals, and others in need. The event took place on January 22, 2026 at the Flushing Bank at its Hicksville Brunch.

This year, seven major community organizations received blanket donations including St. Mother Theresa Pantry, Bethpage, NY; South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS), NYC; United Methodist Church, Hempstead, NY; Family & Children’s Association (FCA) – Runaway Homeless Youth & Walkabout Homeless Youth Shelter, Garden City, NY; Nassau Haven Transitional Youth Shelter, Freeport, NY; Peace After School, Hempstead, NY;  and Uniondale Community Council, Uniondale, NY.

Under the leadership of Club President Tahira Sharif and Project Chair Nilima Madan, the project marked another year of impactful community service. The event was attended by numerous public officials and community leaders, including ADG Donna Rivera‑Downey of Rotary District 7255, Charlie Razenson, President of the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, and RCHS Founding President & PDG Kamlesh Mehta, along with many past presidents and charter members. Lionell Chitty, Executive Director of the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs, was also present.

The club president and project team members were recognized for their dedication and service with citations from the Office of the Nassau County Executive, County Comptroller, and the Offices of the Supervisors of the Town of Oyster Bay and the Town of North Hempstead.

This year’s event was graciously hosted by Flushing Bank, Hicksville Branch, where Branch Manager Sandy Bhatia and her team provided outstanding support. Sandy, who currently serves as President‑Elect for FY 2025–26 and will become Club President for FY 2026–27, is well on track for future leadership within the club.

RCHS Founding President Kamlesh Mehta highlighted the club’s 17 years of dedicated community service, both locally and internationally. Past presidents in attendance included Quddus Mohammed, Rizwan Qureshi, Roopam Maini, Nilima Madan, Lionell Chitty, and Mizan Rahman. In her remarks, Club President Tahira Sharif thanked all members and supporters for their donations, logistical help, and presence at the event.

Guests enjoyed delicious desi appetizers, chai, and dinner. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Club Secretary, Dr. Neeru Bhambri.
