Microsoft has hired 24 engineers and researchers from Google’s DeepMind team, including Amar Subramanya, an Indian-origin executive who spent over 16 years at Google. He has joined Microsoft as a Corporate Vice President and will work on AI products like Copilot and Bing.
Subramanya was previously Vice President of Engineering at Google and played a key role in developing the Gemini assistant. At Microsoft, he will report to Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind and now head of Microsoft’s consumer AI division.
Along with Subramanya, several other seasoned AI experts have made the switch. This includes Adam Sadovsky, who worked at Google for nearly 18 years, and Sonal Gupta, a former senior engineering director at DeepMind. Both are now part of Microsoft’s growing AI team.
