Rep. Krishnamoorthi appointed vice chair of Equality Caucus

Washington, DC: Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has been appointed as vice chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, which aims to advance the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals by advocating for federal policies that promote equality and combat discrimination. 

In this leadership capacity, Congressman Krishnamoorthi will advocate for policies aimed at ensuring equality, combating discrimination, and enabling all Americans, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity, to live authentically, a statement from his office said. 

"Despite the progress we have made, LGBTQ+ Americans continue to face significant barriers to full equality under the law and in their daily lives," stated Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "As a vice chair of the Equality Caucus, I am committed to fighting for policies that protect fundamental rights and ensure that every person is treated with dignity and respect." 

Throughout his tenure in Congress, Krishnamoorthi has been a steadfast supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. He co-sponsored the Equality Act, which seeks to provide comprehensive anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ individuals. Additionally, he introduced the STOP Bullying Act, aiming to establish federal grants for state and local anti-bullying initiatives, particularly addressing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth.
