New York: Law enforcement has arrested a 23-year-old man accused of killing an Indian student from Hyderabad in Dallas, Texas, last week. Authorities identified the suspect as Richard Florez, who allegedly shot 28-year-old Chandrashekar Pole while he was working a part-time shift, before fleeing the scene.
Police said the incident took place at a gas station on Eastchase Parkway, where Florez, a resident of North Richland Hills, allegedly opened fire on the victim.
Pole, who hailed from Hyderabad's LB Nagar, had completed his Bachelor's in Dental Surgery (BDS) before moving to Dallas for higher studies. He was working at the gas station to support himself financially.
The Consulate General of India in Houston said it was in touch with the family and local authorities. In a post on X, the mission condoled Pole's death and said it was providing all possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of the body.
"Consulate General of India, Houston, deeply condoles the tragic death of Mr Chandrasekhar Pole, an Indian student from Hyderabad, who was killed in a shooting incident in Denton, Texas. We are in touch with the family and extending all possible assistance. Local authorities are investigating the incident, and we are following up closely with them," the mission said.
Before moving to the US, Pole worked as a data analyst at American Express in Chennai between 2021 and 2023, and as a programmer analyst at Hitachi Energy in Bengaluru from 2020 to 2021.
