Washington, DC: With talk of a possible third Trump term gaining attention in Washington, House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed he has discussed the matter with the president but stressed the Constitution bars it.

“I don’t see a path for that,” Johnson said at his daily press conference at the Capitol, now in its 28th day of the government shutdown. “He and I have talked about the constrictions of the Constitution.”

“The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment does not allow for a third presidential term,” he said, noting that changing it would require years of state approvals and congressional votes," he added.

Trump, for his part, has continued to tease the idea of extending his time in office. On Air Force One, he told reporters this week, “I would love to do it,” when asked about a third term, though he quickly dismissed a hypothetical “too cute” workaround involving a vice-presidential run.

Harris, Newsom hint at possible presidential run

Former US Vice-President Kamala Harris has told the BBC she may run for President again. "I am not done," Harris said. "I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it's in my bones."

"If I listened to polls, I would not have run for my first office, or my second office — and I certainly wouldn't be sitting here."

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom said in an interview aired recently that he is considering running for US president in 2028 and will make a decision after the 2026 midterm elections, Reuters reported. Asked if he was considering a run, Newsom said, "Yeah, I'd be lying (if I said) otherwise."
