Moscow: Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, firing more than 475 drones and 48 missiles across multiple regions. At least 10 people were killed, and dozens more were injured.
The strikes have cast doubt on the efforts of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to restart peace talks during his visit to Turkey.
In Ternopil, two multi-storey apartment blocks were hit by missiles, causing severe damage. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga confirmed that residential buildings, not military targets, were struck. Photos from the scene showed fires burning through damaged buildings and debris scattered across the streets.
Ahead of his talks in Turkey, Zelenskyy urged Ukraine’s Western allies to do more to put pressure on Russia. He said the latest attacks showed that current international measures were insufficient. "Every brazen attack against ordinary life shows that the pressure on Russia is insufficient. Effective sanctions and assistance to Ukraine can change this," he said, calling for air defence missiles aid from allies.
US working with Russia on 28-point planUS President Donald Trump and his administration are working with Russia, in secrecy, to draft a 28-point plan to stop the war in Ukraine, Axios reported, citing US and Russian officials. This new plan has drawn inspiration from Trump's 20-point Gaza peace plan. The peace plan would include points that fall in four general categories — “peace in Ukraine, security guarantees, security in Europe, and future US relations with Russia and Ukraine” — the report said, citing sources. However, what still remains unclear is how the peace plan would tackle major issues such as Russia's territorial control in some areas in eastern Ukraine. |
