Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed that the country would not be open to ceding any land to Russia, even as United States President Donald Trump is pushing for a reply to the Ukraine peace proposal.
Zelenskyy stressed that he would not relent to any territorial losses, while saying, “Undoubtedly, Russia insists for us to give up territories. We, clearly, don't want to give up anything.” The Ukrainian President further said, “That's what we are fighting for.”
The Ukrainian leader said that they did not have the right to cede territory according to the law, the Associated Press reported. “Do we consider ceding any territories? According to the law, we don't have such a right,” he said. Zelensky said that Ukraine's law, its constitution, and international law do not permit any concessions. “…And to be frank, we don't have a moral right either,” the Ukrainian President said.
This comes even as Trump, in an interview with Politico, said he had offered a new draft of the peace plan to Ukraine, while alleging that some officials from the country liked it.
Trump sets new deadline for ZelenskyyUS President Donald Trump’s envoys have given Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a fresh deadline to respond to Washington’s proposed peace plan, unnamed officials told the Financial Times. The officials said Zelenskyy has only “days” to reply, even as the Ukrainian leader insists he will not accept any deal that redraws Ukraine’s borders. The FT reported that Trump had hoped to finalize an agreement by Christmas. In a post on X following meetings with European and NATO leaders, Zelenskyy signaled he would send the White House a revised Ukrainian-led proposal instead. “We are committed to a real peace,” he wrote. |
