Diwali In My New Home – A picture book celebrating a holiday in a new country

This Diwali, children’s publisher Beaming Books published a picture book Diwali in My New Home by Shachi Kaushik with illustrations by Aishwarya Tandon.

It is a lovely picture book about finding hope and happiness in new places. Follow the story of Priya, a young girl celebrating Diwali away from India for the first time. Priya loves being with family and friends to watch fireworks and celebrate Diwali. But this year Priya and her parents are living in North America, and no one seems to know about the holiday. Priya misses the traditions in India. But as she strings lights outside and creates rangoli art, Priya introduces the festival of lights to her neighbors. And even though the celebration is different this year, it’s still Diwali. It is a heartwarming story of celebrating in a new place and sharing the Hindu festival of lights with those unfamiliar with the holiday.

The book is full of vibrant colors and skillful illustrations that will have you captivated by every page. It is the perfect choice for beginner readers and especially for immigrant children who are missing home. This story will give hope that culture and traditions live on no matter where you are and that the people around you are who make every day so special. Change can be a good thing, and this picture book will teach children to be proud of their culture and to celebrate who they are.

Shachi is a bilingual Hindi-English children’s media enthusiast who is passionate about sharing stories of cultural diversity and authenticity.

To further explore her passion for valuable content that expands little growing minds, Shachi created SmartyHathy, a free downloadable activity book for children, and a YouTube Channel called “Happy Hindi Learners”, a resource for parents who wish to introduce their children to the Hindi language and Indian culture.

‘Diwali In My New Home’ is available in local book stores.
