Veteran actor Dharmendra, the legendary 'He-Man of Bollywood', passed away, leaving behind an unmatched legacy that spanned more than six decades. He was 89. The actor, who symbolized charm, strength, and simplicity, breathed his last surrounded by his loved ones on November 24, 2025.

Known for his versatility and screen persona, he played prominent roles in more than 300 films. From 'Phool Aur Patthar' to 'Sholay' and 'Satyakam', his journey is one of grit and grace -- a life of both stardom and dreams. With his passing, an era of golden Hindi cinema truly came to an end.

Born on December 8, 1935, in Nasrali village, near Ludhiana, Punjab, Dharmendra grew up in a humble Sikh household. Raised amidst simplicity, young Dharam loved the fields, tractors, and earthy village life. Acting or stardom was never part of his plans.

Fate, however, had a different story to tell. In 1958, he spotted an advertisement in Filmfare magazine announcing a talent contest titled “New Faces.” He sent in his photographs and won the competition, landing in then Bombay.

Dharmendra made his film debut in 1960 with Arjun Hingorani’s 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere'. Throughout his career, Dharmendra collaborated with several iconic filmmakers, including Bimal Roy, Yash Chopra, Raj Khosla, Ramesh Sippy, Rajkumar Santoshi, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterji. Let's have a look at his filmography over the years.

His early years saw him essay supporting roles in films such as 'Boy Friend' (1961). This was followed by a series of romantic films largely centred on strong female protagonists.

The 1970s marked Dharmendra’s golden era. He was at his peak, delivering one hit after another. From romantic dramas like 'Chupke Chupke' (1975) and Satyakam' (1969) to blockbusters like 'Jugnu', 'Raja Jani', and 'Sholay' (1975).

If there was one role that immortalized Dharmendra, it was Veeru in 'Sholay'. Released in 1975, the film became one of the greatest blockbusters in Indian history. Dharmendra’s easy humor, charm, and camaraderie with Amitabh Bachchan as Jai became iconic.

His last appearance was in the Kriti Sanon-Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Ulja Jiya' in 2024. The late actor will be seen in the upcoming film 'Ikkis'. Starring Amitabh Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda, the war drama is slated for a theatrical release on December 25 this year.

The cinematic legend's warmth, humility, and his golden-age charisma continue to echo through every reel of Indian cinema. He is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Esha Deol, Ahana Deol, Vijeta, and Ajeeta.
