Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated as the United States and Israel continue military operations against Iran, triggering retaliatory strikes, rising casualties and global economic shocks. Diplomatic contradictions, regional security fears and disrupted oil routes are deepening uncertainty across the region.

Here’s what happened so far:

  • Iran and allied groups have attacked multiple locations across the Persian Gulf and Middle East, including missile strikes on Qatar’s Al-Udeid base, drone attacks on US diplomatic sites in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and militia strikes in Jordan and Iraq. Israel has also struck Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions.

  • US President Donald Trump said most of Iran’s military installations had been “knocked out” and confirmed new strikes targeting Iranian leadership.

  • According to the US military, Iran has launched over 500 ballistic missiles and 2,000 drones so far, while US-Israeli forces say they have struck nearly 2,000 targets in Iran, destroying many missiles, drones, and air defense systems.

  • The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has reported that 1,097 civilians have been killed in Iran since February 28. Among them were 181 children under the age of 10, the agency said. Civilian injuries have risen to 5,402, including at least 100 children, according to HRANA data cited by the BBC. HRANA added that there have been at least 104 attacks in the past 24 hours alone, targeting military bases, medical centres and residential areas.

  • Several countries are accelerating efforts to evacuate their nationals stranded in the Middle East as the Israel-US war with Iran intensifies.

  • Iran’s disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has pushed Brent crude above $82 (Rs 7,565) per barrel, shaking global markets. The US has authorized the evacuation of non-essential staff from Saudi Arabia as fears grow that the war could last weeks or longer.

Iran won't negotiate with US: Larijani

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran will not negotiate with Washington, dismissing media reports that the Islamic Republic had used intermediaries to seek renewed talks with the US amid the raging conflict that erupted after American strikes killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

In a post on X, Larijani, a long-time advisor to Khamenei, slammed US President Donald Trump and accused him of pushing the region into turmoil.
