Islamabad: Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has accused Pakistani authorities of subjecting his wife, Bushra Bibi, to “inhumane treatment” in prison and said the “judges have sold their souls".
“The judges in this country should be ashamed of themselves. Time and again, we have gone to the judiciary, but they have sold their souls for personal gain. They have sold their integrity. They know they cannot break me, so they turn to my wife," Khan said. “How can they allow this inhumane treatment of Bushra Bibi, simply to blackmail me?"
Khan said his wife was being kept in complete isolation “except for 30 minutes with me per week, and even that is denied often". According to The Independent, the remarks were made by Imran Khan during a rare phone call with one of his sons, Kasim Khan, for Eid over the weekend.
Khan has been jailed since August 2023 and is serving a sentence at Adiala Jail in the Al Qadir Trust corruption case. He also faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act linked to the protest by his party on May 9, 2023. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was also sentenced to 17 years in jail in the Toshakhana 2 corruption case.
Meanwhile, Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, launched a scathing attack against the Shehbaz Sharif-led government, accusing it of employing “technical games" and bureaucratic silence to prevent her brother’s sons from visiting him in prison. She raised grave concerns over the Pakistan government’s transparency and the physical well-being of Imran Khan.
