External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi this week and held a detailed discussion on the ongoing situation in West Asia.

Sharing details of the exchange on X, Jaishankar said he received a phone call from Araghchi and agreed to remain in “close touch". “Received a phone call from Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi of Iran this evening. Had a detailed conversation about various aspects of the current situation. We agreed to remain in close touch," Jaishankar wrote.

The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi stated that during their phone call, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and EAM Jaishankar discussed the latest developments related to the ceasefire, bilateral relations, and regional and international issues.

Chabahar project on track: Iran envoy

The Chabahar project has never been halted and continues to move forward steadily despite sanctions, Iran’s Ambassador to India, Dr Mohammad Fathali, told CNN-News18.

Noting that Tehran remains open to dialogue with the United States, Fathali stressed that no official details of any new proposal have been released. He underlined that Iran seeks “durable and lasting peace" rather than a cycle of war and ceasefire, asserting that Tehran’s non-negotiable red lines include its right to peaceful nuclear energy under the NPT and the lifting of “unjust" sanctions.

He also said that 'friendly countries', including India, face no restrictions in transiting the Strait of Hormuz. "So far, several Indian vessels have passed through this route with full security, and this process will continue in the future," he said.
