Dear Friends,
Belated, warm greetings for a joyous, healthy, and prosperous New Year. Trust you and your loved ones are well.
As we welcome 2026 with the hope of more happiness and peace, the year gone by left many awesome milestones and amazing memories that the world will cherish for many decades. 2025 will also be remembered as one of the most eventful years in geopolitics in the current century.
The political developments in 2025 took centerstage, especially Donald Trump being inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, becoming just the second person ever elected to non-consecutive terms to ‘Make America Great Again’. He successfully brought peace among many warring nations. Hope the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will also be resolved very soon. Notably, the recent unfolding developments in Venezuela after the US capture of Nicolas Maduro and his wife rekindle fresh hopes for the millions of starving people of the richest oil country in the world.
The year gone by also witnessed some irreparable losses, Pope Francis, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who served 12 years, and Dharmendra, the iconic actor and the beloved ‘He-Man’ of Bollywood. The world also mourned the loss of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton, celebrated Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, veteran Bollywood actor Manoj Kumar, and former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, among other noted leaders and celebrities.
In May, India successfully showed its new norm, with ‘Operation Sindoor’. The four-day operation once again proved India’s military might against the gang of its enemies.
The Indian space sector added many firsts in 2025, with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla becoming the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS), after 40 long years following Rakesh Sharma in 1984.
India also became the fourth nation to ace the space docking technology. ISRO achieved a major milestone with the successful launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission -- a first-of-its-kind joint satellite mission between the US and India -- onboard the GSLV-F16 rocket in July.
In December, ISRO launched BlueBird 6, a next-generation communications satellite from US innovator AST SpaceMobile. Launching the heaviest satellite ever from Indian soil highlights India’s growing strength in heavy lift launch capability. India is now on course for Gaganyaan -- the country’s first human spaceflight mission.
The year 2025 will also be remembered for the Test retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the most beloved players after Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. 2025 truly proved to be a milestone year for Indian women's cricket. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led women's team created history by clinching the World Cup.
Divya Deshmukh, a 19-year-old chess prodigy, became India's first woman World Cup winner. Also, India is now preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad after winning the bid in November.
