New Delhi: French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly condemned the November 9 Red Fort suicide blast in New Delhi and the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir, while reaffirming France’s support for India’s right to defend itself against terrorism.

In a joint statement released after talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, both leaders expressed “unequivocal and strong" condemnation of terrorism and violent extremism in all forms, including cross-border attacks.

“The leaders reiterated their commitment to cooperate in the fight against terrorists and terrorist groups and their affiliates including those listed by the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee." the statement said.

Macron praised India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI), saying the country has accomplished what no other nation has — creating a digital identity system that serves all 1.4 billion citizens.

They called on all countries to continue efforts to eliminate terrorist safe havens, disrupt terror networks, and cut off financing of terrorism, in line with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) guidelines. “Both countries reiterated their commitment to work together in UN, FATF and other multilateral platforms."

Both leaders welcomed growing counter-terror cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the September 2025 counter-terrorism dialogue and the November 2025 Letter of Intent between India’s National Security Guard (NSG) and France’s Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN).

In a press statement, Macron called for an ad hoc meeting between India and France to reach an agreement on the international agenda ahead of the G7 Summit in Evian.

Last year, PM Modi attended the summit on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's invitation.
