New York: Jack Teixeira, a 22-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was sentenced to 15 years in prison this week for leaking classified US military documents online, including material related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As per Reuters report, he was sentenced by US District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston after pleading guilty in March to what federal prosecutors described as “one of the most significant and consequential violations” of US anti-espionage law.
Despite being trained in handling classified information, Teixeira repeatedly shared hundreds of sensitive documents on the Discord messaging platform over the course of a year. Judge Talwani remarked that although he had been warned about the risks and penalties, he continued to disclose classified information. “The fact that others did not do more to stop you is truly unfortunate,” she said.
