New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Constitution Day on November 26 with a letter urging citizens to place their duties foremost in their minds and work towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The letter, released on the 76th year of the Constitution’s adoption, framed civic responsibility, especially voting and youth participation, as central to India’s democratic future.

PM Modi stressed that fulfilling duties is key to India’s progress. "Every action of ours should strengthen the Constitution and further national goals and interests," he wrote.

He urged citizens to adopt a sense of gratitude toward the nation, adding that “when we live with this feeling, fulfilling our duties becomes integral to our nature". PM Modi said the Constitution has empowered millions like him, recalling how its "strength and sanctity" shaped his own journey.

"It is the power of our Constitution that enabled a person like me, coming from a humble and economically disadvantaged family, to serve as the Head of the Government," he wrote.

This year’s Constitution Day coincides with the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Birsa Munda, the 150th year of Vande Mataram, and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the makers of the Constitution. From Dr Rajendra Prasad and Dr BR Ambedkar to the distinguished women members of the Constituent Assembly, PM Modi said their "thoughtful interventions and visionary perspectives" shaped the document.
