Celebrating Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's fearless leadership, indomitable spirit, and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom.

Days ahead of the 77th Republic Day, India celebrated Parakram Diwas on January 23, marking the 129th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose - the nation's most illustrious and fearless freedom fighter. Parakram Diwas, or Day of Valor, not only celebrates Netaji's birth but also pays tribute to his unwavering courage, remarkable sacrifices, and steadfast dedication to India's freedom struggle.

Commemorating the day with patriotic fervor at Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to Netaji, recalling his unparalleled courage, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom struggle.

Speaking of the deep historical association of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with Netaji’s ideals, the Prime Minister emphasized that Netaji’s vision continues to inspire the nation in its journey towards a strong, self-reliant, and Viksit Bharat.

Highlighting the significance of January 23, PM Modi said Netaji’s courage, sacrifice, and vision continue to inspire the nation. He noted that Parakram Diwas has emerged as an important national occasion celebrating India’s spirit of bravery and resolve. He further said that the inspiration drawn from Parakram Diwas would continue to strengthen India’s collective resolve towards development, self-reliance, and national strength.

President Murmu paid floral tributes to Netaji at Rashtrapati Bhavan and highlighted his transformative role in inspiring the Indian freedom struggle.

“On Parakram Diwas, marking the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I pay my humble tribute to a great leader of India’s freedom struggle. His call for independence awakened courage, self-confidence, unity and the spirit of nationalism among millions of Indians. Through the Azad Hind Fauj, he gave decisive leadership to India’s freedom movement and carried it to the global stage. His legacy continues to inspire every Indian,” she said in a post on X.

Paying rich tributes to Netaji, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said: "Netaji epitomized valour, bravery and an unyielding spirit of sacrifice for the motherland. His fearless leadership and call for decisive action gave new strength and direction to India’s freedom struggle."

A month-long exhibition is currently underway at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island in Port Blair, along with various cultural events at the ITF Ground. The event featured a series of vibrant cultural performances celebrating the spirit of patriotism. A spectacular drone show enthralled the audience, vividly portraying the life, ideals, and historic journey of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Azad Hind Fauj.

Alongside the major celebrations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Parakram Diwas was also observed at 13 iconic locations across the country closely associated with Netaji’s life and legacy—Cuttack, Kodalia, Ramgarh, Haripura, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Murshidabad, Dalhousie, Delhi, Moirang, Kohima, Gomoh, and Meerut.

The Government of India had declared January 23 as Parakram Diwas in 2021 to honour Netaji and to recognise his unparalleled contribution to the nation’s freedom and unity.
