Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Choudhary took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar this week, marking a decisive political reset in the state by installing the BJP’s first-ever government in the state.
Choudhary, 57, was administered the oath of office by the Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at a ceremony in Raj Bhavan, attended by top BJP leaders and alliance partners.
Choudhary moved swiftly to set the tone of his administration, issuing five key directions to officials in his first meeting at the Secretariat hours after taking the oath. He told officials to accelerate governance, warning against delays and pushing for faster resolution of public grievances.
“I will get down to work from today itself,” he said after the swearing-in ceremony, adding that Bihar would follow the “Modi-Nitish model” of governance.
Choudhary, who joined the BJP in 2017, was elected leader of the party’s legislative wing on April 14. The BJP is the single largest party in the 243-member Assembly, with 89 MLAs.
Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar, now a Rajya Sabha MP, stepped down as Chief Minister after dissolving his Cabinet. In the outgoing government, Choudhary had served as Deputy Chief Minister and held the crucial home portfolio, positioning him as a key figure in the administration.
