As Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay’s hunt for allies continues following his powerful debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has yet to make a decision, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

Vijay — who ventured into politics by forming his party TVK — redefined the political landscape of Tamil Nadu by ending the DMK-AIADMK duopoly, securing an impressive 108 out of the 234 seats in the state assembly.

However, the TVK fell short of the majority mark of 118, and it requires an additional 10 seats to form a government. Earlier in the day, TVK's Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to stake a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu, with 112 MLAs backing him.

"Come back with 118,” Governor Rajendra Arlekar is learnt to have told Vijay, setting off a fresh round of political scrambling. Although Vijay secured support from the Congress, which has five legislators, he orally said he got the backing from the party and asked for time to shore up numbers, India Today reported, citing sources.

The Congress party formally announced an alliance with Vijay’s TVK, unilaterally snapping its over-two-decades-old ties with the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
