Uttara Singh's film ‘Pinch’ has been selected in the International Narrative Competition of New York’s Tribeca Festival. The 24th edition of the festival, which runs from June 4 to 15 across venues in New York City, will open at the Beacon Theatre.
With its trailer being launched at the Cannes Film Festival recently, 'Pinch', based on the subject of assault, will have its world premiere in New York on June 6. It is worth mentioning that a total of 14000 films were submitted to Tribeca, out of which 150 were selected.
Before 'Pinch', 'Adipurush', 'Kill', from India, were selected in Tribeca’s famous festival. Films like 'Two Sisters and a Husband', 'Chhello Show', 'Tryst with Destiny', 'Katiyabaaz' have been selected. It is worth mentioning that actor and filmmaker Uttara, who hails from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is currently an adjunct professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts.

Earlier, her short film 'Fanny Pack' was screened at 80 film festivals and it went on to win about 25 awards. In 2017, it was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award.
The shooting of the 83-minute-long film was done in Indore and nearby areas. Uttara said that her parents are from Indore, so people from their village participated in this 24 days' school. "When I used to get upset seeing them shooting in the sun, they would tell me to think about my film. We are all your own. If it were not for their participation, this film would hardly have been made."
The film is about a travel blogger, Maitri, played by Uttara herself. Through the film, Uttara has raised the issue of assault. "I have seen that often attempts are made to hide it, or it is advised to forget it by considering it a minor incident. Actually, this is not an issue of gender but of power, which is faced by both men and women," she said.
This sensitive issue has been presented in the style of dark comedy, which, according to Uttara, is the biggest strength of the script. The film stars Geeta Agrawal Sharma of 'Laapata Ladies' fame, Sunita Rajwar, Sapna Sand and Badri Chavhan. The music in the film is scored by Rashi Kulkarni, and the film is co-written by Adam Linze.
