Special Olympics New York hosts Annual Winter Classic at Javits Center in NYC

Highly Anticipated Tournament to Welcome 24 Teams and More Than 400 Athletes from Five Regions

New York City, NY: To cap off another outstanding year of competition and inclusion, the Peter Aquilone Memorial Winter Classic returns to the Big Apple today. The day will commence with an exciting Opening Ceremonies celebration, followed by floorball team and skills competition, Healthy Athletes, Young Athletes, and more.

Details are as follows:

  • When: Saturday, December 6, beginning with pairing games at 9:30am
  • Where: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (655 West 34th Street, New York, NY 10001)
  • What: Floorball competition in traditional, Unified, and skills, along with Young Athletes and Health
  • Who: More than 450 athletes and coaches from the Genesee, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Southern Tier, and New York City regions

In addition to the above, more than 70 children with and without disabilities are expected to attend the Young Athletes portion of the event, where they will practice sport-specific skills to build confidence and prepare them for future competition.

More than health volunteers will also be on-hand to deliver free health care in the following disciplines: Fit Feet, FUNFitness, Healthy Hearing, Health Promotions, Special Smiles, and Strong Minds.

Like all Special Olympics New York events, the Peter Aquilone Memorial Winter Classic is free and open to the public.
