Priti Dhariwal sworn in as Councilwoman for the Borough of River Edge

New York: Priti Dhariwal, is the first Indian American woman to be sworn in as Councilwoman in Bergen County. She continues to make history and serve her River Edge community with passion and dedication. 

The swearing-in ceremony on January 6 was attended by several distinguished leaders, including Bergen County Commissioner Chairwoman Germaine Ortiz, County Commissioner Tracy Zur, County Sheriff Anthony Cureton, Commissioner Rafael Marte, Assemblywoman Lisa Swain and Mayor of River Edge, Thomas Papaleo. 

Dhariwal is a certified yoga instructor, educator, and licensed realtor. Her journey into public service was shaped by her experience as a Cultural Ambassador from India, selected by Rotary International in 2000. This pivotal role deepened her appreciation for the shared values of diversity across cultures, particularly in the Western world. A dedicated advocate for her community, Priti has worked tirelessly and her efforts have earned her recognition for preserving and promoting Indian cultural heritage in the United States.  

Reflecting on her journey, she shared, she expressed her gratitude to Bergen County Commissioner Tracy Zur and State Assemblywoman Lisa Swain for their influence and support. “To bring about change, we must be the change,” Dhariwal stated during her swearing-in ceremony, reaffirming her commitment to making a difference in her town and beyond.
