Jaishankar hails diaspora for cementing India-Netherlands ties

The Hague: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar, during his visit to the Netherlands this week, appreciated the Indian community for its significant contribution in enhancing the relationship between India and the European nation. 

"Interacted with representatives of the Indian community this evening. Value the contribution of the community to building a stronger relationship between India and the Netherlands," EAM Jaishankar posted on X.

Earlier, Jaishankar met Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans in The Hague, exchanging views on respective security perspectives and challenges of both nations and discussing the benefits of forging a bilateral defence partnership between India and the Netherlands.

Jaishankar also interacted with Dutch counterpart Caspar Veldkamp in The Hague, appreciating the Netherlands' strong condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and support for zero tolerance against terrorism.

Both leaders held wide-ranging discussions on deepening bilateral partnership and engagement with the European Union, and exchanged views on the global situation in an era of multi-polarity.

Besides the Foreign Minister, Jaishankar also met strategic experts with discussions focused on deeper engagement between India and the Netherlands.

"A good exchange of views with strategic experts in the Hague this morning. Discussed why India and the Netherlands/EU should engage more deeply in an era of multi-polarity and strategic autonomy," the Indian minister posted on X.

Earlier, Jaishankar was received by the Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Kumar Tuhin, and Gabriella Sancisi, Director, Protocol and Host Country Affairs Department at the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He is on an official six-day visit to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany, scheduled from May 19 to 24. The visit comes at a time when India is actively bolstering its outreach to Europe, with an emphasis on trade, investment, digital cooperation, climate action, and shared security concerns.

Jaishankar thanks Netherlands for strong stand against terror

The Hague: S Jaishankar met with the Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof in The Hague, thanking him for the European nation's unequivocal condemnation of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir which had resulted in the death of 26 innocent civilians. 

The two leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar posted on X, "Delighted to call on PM Dick Schoof today in The Hague. Conveyed the warm greetings of PM Narendra Modi and thanked him for the Netherlands' firm and resolute stance against terrorism. Appreciate his commitment to taking the India-Netherlands partnership to newer heights. Assured that our teams will work hard to achieve these goals."

PM Schoof, in his own post on X, stated, "Good to receive the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs S. Jaishankar at the Catshuis. First of all, I expressed my support for India's fight against terrorism after the terrible attack last month in Pahalgam. It is good for all parties that the violence between India and Pakistan has not escalated further."

"In addition, we discussed the Strategic Partnership. This concerns long-term cooperation between the Netherlands and India in areas such as trade, innovative technology, agriculture and security. In a changing world, it is important for both the Netherlands and India that we can continue to count on each other. I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Modi to our country soon to discuss this further," he added.
