Islamabad: Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has stated that he harbors no political ambitions and sees himself solely as a servant of the state, according to a report by a Pakistani media outlet.
Suhail Warraich, a columnist for the Jang media group, wrote in an article published on Saturday that General Munir conveyed this message to him directly during a recent meeting in Brussels, Belgium, while en route from his visit to the United States, ANI reported.
The columnist said that Munir was reported as saying on stage at a Brussels gathering that: “God has made me protector of the country. I do not desire any position other than that.”
As per the report, Munir also "warned" India against destabilizing Pakistan's peace through the use of "proxies", and also cautioned Afghanistan against "pushing the Taliban into Pakistan", or it would be met with a response.
We keep an eye on India-Pak situation ‘every single day’: Rubio
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the US keeps an eye on what is happening between Pakistan and India “every single day”. Rubio was speaking about the challenges of a ceasefire in connection to the war in Ukraine.
The US Secretary of State said that beyond reaching a ceasefire, one of the complications is maintaining it, adding that it is very difficult, PTI reported. “I mean, every single day we keep an eye on what's happening between Pakistan and India, what's happening between Cambodia and Thailand,” Rubio said.
