New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s commitment to fight terrorism and said that India will never bow to any form of terror. “As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed,” he said on the anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were gunned down.
“Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss,” PM Modi said in an X post.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and said India will respond with “strength and clarity” if any attempt is made to harm its people.
“India has endured decades of cross-border terror, but today our response is firm, decisive and unwavering. Through determined action, we have demonstrated that any attempt to harm our people or disrupt our unity will be met with strength and clarity,” he posted on X.
The terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, marked one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years. Armed militants opened fire at a popular tourist spot in the Baisaran Valley, killing 26 people, most of them tourists, and leaving several others injured. The incident sparked nationwide outrage and drew strong condemnation from across the world.
Investigations pointed to the involvement of Pakistan-linked terror networks, with authorities tracing operational support beyond India’s borders. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of May 6-7, 2025, as a “calibrated military response”.
