Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal finally made their relationship official by getting married in an intimate ceremony on June 23. They took to social media to share official pics from the function but switched off comments on Instagram in an attempt to avoid any hate and trolling over their happy news.
However, people have been dropping negative comments on other posts. Sonakshi's father, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, spoke against those protesting the wedding. The veteran actor said marriage is a personal choice and no one has a right to comment on his daughter's decisions in life.
Sinha, who attended Sonakshi-Zaheer's civil marriage, added that people should invest their energies into something productive rather than paying attention to his daughter's marriage. He highlighted that Sonakshi-Zaheer's wedding is legally valid and there's nothing wrong about it.
As the couple's wedding photos went viral on social media, several protests were organized in Sinha's hometown in Patna, Bihar, by the Hindu Shiv Bhawani Sena. They referred to the marriage as 'love jihad' and asked Sonakshi to never visit the place again.
The low-key registered marriage and the civil ceremony took place at Sonakshi’s apartment in Bandra, Mumbai, and was attended by close friends and relatives. Post the wedding, Sonakshi and Zaheer headed to a well-known restaurant in the city to celebrate their union with celebrity friends. It was attended by Salman Khan, Rekha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Kajol, Anil Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Raveena Tandon and Kajol.
