New York: India’s Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra met Sergio Gor, US Envoy-Designate to India, at Mar-a-Lago — a resort and national historic landmark on a barrier island in Palm Beach, Florida — and held wide-ranging discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade ties and the future of India–US relations.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Kwatra said the two sides had “extensive discussions" on their shared goal of deepening economic cooperation.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet with India’s Ambassador to the US," Gor wrote in an X post, noting that the interaction marked Kwatra’s first visit to Mar-a-Lago.
Kwatra replied: “Happy to connect with Sergio Gor in Mar-a-Lago. Extensive discussions on our shared goal to strengthen trade ties, as also his plans and priorities for our bilateral partnership as he prepares to assume his responsibility as the US Ambassador to India”.
The meeting comes amid sustained efforts by New Delhi and Washington to expand cooperation across trade, investment, and strategic sectors, even as the two countries work to navigate evolving global and regional challenges.
Mar-a-Lago is a venue that has hosted several political and diplomatic interactions and where President Donald Trump is currently spending the holiday season.
In November, Kwatra held a wide-ranging conversation on the India-US bilateral economic engagement agenda with Jacob Helberg, the 22nd Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs. He also met US Senator John Barrasso and underscored salient drivers of the strategic partnership between India and the US.
Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said this week that India and the United States are in the advanced stages of negotiating a bilateral trade agreement.
