Message and announcement from AIA National President (2026–2027) Nilima Madan. The Association of Indians in America (AIA) proudly announces the unanimous election of Ravishankar Bhooplapur as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the 2026–2027 term.

Bhooplapur succeeds Samin K. Sharma, who concludes a distinguished tenure marked by exemplary leadership, dedication, and transformative contributions to the organization. AIA extends its deepest appreciation to Dr. Sharma for his unwavering commitment and service, which have significantly strengthened the organization’s growth, visibility, and impact.

Dr. Sharma, a globally recognized leader in interventional cardiology, is renowned for performing over 1,500 high-risk complex coronary interventions annually with exceptional success rates and minimal complications. His numerous accolades include the Governor’s Award of Excellence in Medicine and repeated two-star designations from the New York State Department of Health for superior patient outcomes. In addition to his clinical excellence, Dr. Sharma has been a steadfast supporter of AIA’s mission, contributing generously both personally and through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

“We are deeply grateful for Dr. Sharma’s remarkable leadership and lasting contributions to AIA,” said Nilima Madan, National President of AIA. “His legacy will continue to inspire our work and mission.”

Bhooplapur brings decades of distinguished leadership in education and humanitarian service. As Founder and President of Xavier University School of Medicine in Aruba, he has built a globally recognized institution that has graduated more than 1,300 physicians serving communities around the world. His philanthropic initiatives have delivered life-saving medical care to thousands of underserved children and strengthened healthcare infrastructure across more than 16 countries.

“Mr. Bhooplapur’s visionary leadership, deep commitment to service, and global perspective make him exceptionally well-suited to guide AIA into its next chapter,” added Ms. Madan. “We are confident that under his stewardship, AIA will continue to grow, innovate, and expand its positive impact.”

Bhooplapur’s appointment reflects AIA’s continued dedication to excellence, community service, and global engagement.
